If you’re new to the display case world, you should know that Acrylic is not your only material option. In fact, there are a slew of display case materials you can be using.
The question is, of course, which one should you use? And why?
Let’s go over the basics.
Styrene Display
Of these three choices, Styrene is your most affordable option. It’s light in density, fairly rigid, and comes with smooth, frosted edges.
Styrene is often seen as a cheaper version of Acrylic, but in reality, it can be a fine substitute if you’re looking to save some money. It holds its shape particularly well, and because it’s so light in density if you’re ordering hundreds of units, you’d be able to save with shipping costs.
Acrylic Display
When it comes to POP display cases, Acrylic tends to be one of our most popular materials. It’s a little more flexible and heavier in density than Styrene, but it’s less susceptible to scratching. Acrylic is typically flame-polished on the edges, giving it a cleaner look than Styrene’s frosted edges.
Because of its flexibility, Acrylic doesn’t snap or break as frequently as Styrene. It’s got a shiny and professional look, perfect for literature holders, for cosmetic displays, and any other point-of-purchase unit you need to show off your goods.
PETG Display
Your most durable material of these three choices is PETG, which stands for Polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified. PETG is a clear amorphous thermoplastic that can be colored during fabrication.
Of these three materials, it’s the most flexible and is virtually unbreakable. PETG is up to 200 times harder than glass! It’s also recyclable! It’s one of the most durable materials you can use in a display unit, and it’s the most expensive of these three options.
